Supporters of Syrian President Bashar Assad show V-signs as they celebrate his victory at the main Umayyad square, in Damascus, Syria. Assad has been re-elected for a fourth seven-year term and garnered 13.540.860 votes, or 95.1%. The two other presidential candidates, former state minister Abdallah Salloum Abdallah and Mahmud Merhi, a member of the so-called "tolerated opposition", received 1.5 percent and 3.3 percent of the vote respectively, according to the official results of Wednesday's election.
