Rossiya Segodnya special photojournalist Valery Melnikov won special prize in the Portrait Series category for the Underground series. These photos were taken in Donbass in September 2015. They feature the residents of the villages in the combat zone who find shelter in the cellars of the destroyed houses. Most of them are elderly men and lonely women. Some decided to stay and fight, some have no other place to go. Many of them lost their families.
