Unknown artist. "The Portrait of Yemelyan Pugachyov." The date of the picture, September 21, 1773, can be seen on top. The picture was painted in Iletsky town. The following inscription is written on the back: "Yemelyan Pugachyov who was born in a Cossack stanitsa [village] is an Russian Orthodox Christian and the son of Ivan Pugachyov." This portrait was painted on September 21, 1773. During the portrait's restoration, it was discovered that Pugachyov was painted over an image of Empress Catherine the Great. The original picture is stored at the State Historical Museum.
