Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament, on the River Thames in Westminster, London. Westminster was the primary London residence of the Kings of England until 1529. After a fire on October 16, 1834 the palace was reconstructed under a neo-Gothic plan by Charles Barry and Augustus Pugin.
