A Proton-M launch vehicle with the Thor-2-R spacecraft on top has been taken to the launch pad of site 200 of the Baikonur space center. The initial launch sequence is currently being initiated. The rocket and its payload will lift off at 2.33 p.m. February 10, 2008. The 2,450-kg Thor-2-R telecommunications satellite was developed by the US company Orbital Sciences Corporation [OSC] on the basis of the Star-2 platform under a contract with Norway's Telenor. The geostationary spacecraft is intended to operate for 15 years and will cover Northern Europe, Central Europe and the Middle East.
