

The Demilitarized Zone, 4km wide, runs acrcoss the peninsula for 241km. It divides the Korean Peninsula into the northern half (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and the southern half (the Republic of Korea). Its axis is the "Military Demarcation Line" which was officially established on July 27, 1953, by the Korean Armistice Agreement in Panmunjom village.
