Russian Investigative Committee continues the investigation the murder of the Russian pilot Col. Peshkov and Russian Marine Alexander Pozynich who were killed by Syrian militants in Syria's Latakia province. On November 24, 2015, Turkish F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber over Syria. Crew Commander, Col. Oleg Peshkov, and Navigator Konstantin Murakhtin ejected before the plane hit the ground. Col. Peshkov was killed by militants while parachuting to the ground, Murakhtin was later saved by a Russian search and rescue infantry unit supported by Syrian special forces.
