Lake Baikal is a fresh water lake with the world's biggest fresh water capacity. Its water volume is estimated at 23 000 m3 (22% of world reserve). Baikal's unique ecological system is habitat for over 2630 species of flora and fauna most of which (about 2/3) are endemic. Pine trees "on stilts" on the shore.
