Maltese throne. Presented to the Russian Emperor Paul I (1754-1801), who took the title of the Grand Master of the Maltese Order in 1790. The emperor's throne was made by master Telesforo Bonaveri to a design by Giacomo Quarenghi, one of the leading architects of Russian classicism. The throne formed part of the decoration of the Malta Chapel constructed near the Vorontsovsky Palace to a project by Giacomo Quarenghi (1798-1800). Wood, carving, gilt, velvet. The State Hermitage.
