Gaius Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) was an outstanding Roman general, statesman and writer. He was proclaimed a lifelong dictator after the victory over Pompey. He carried out a series of reforms to strengthen central authority. Julius Caesar was compared to Peter the Great.
