Founded on orders from Russian Emperor Alexander II, the Moscow Polytechnical Museum was built stage by stage from 1874 till 1907. It is one of the largest and oldest science-and-technical museums in the world. The Museum's neo-Russian 17th century-style building was designed by architect Ippolit Monigetti [1819-1878].
