Lacquer miniature is a type of Russian miniature folk art. Paintings are made with tempera on lacquer pieces from papier-mache (boxes, caskets, etc.) Artists use motives of ancient Russian history and folklore. This box is entitled "Ilya Muromets and Nightingale the Robber." It was painted by Ivan Fomichyov from Mstera in 1958.
