A memorial honoring Estonian soldiers of the 20th SS Division was unveiled in the small town of Lihula in summer 2004, soon to be dismantled on a government decision under world public pressure. The controversial monument was initially erected in Parnu, 2002, only to be removed on Town Hall resolution.
