The Peter the Great, or Bolsheokhtinsky, Bridge is St. Petersburg's fourth oldest permanent bridge across the Greater Neva. Built in 1908-11, it links the banks close to the Smolny Institute. The Bolsheokhtinsky remains one of Europe's unique structures. Its central span makes it a drawbridge. The width of the others, 136 meters each, was unprecedented in the early 20th century.
